Top 5 Foundations of 2014

Image
I am not going to go into much detail on these because I have so many other posts featuring these foundations but I wanted to give a round up of my faves so far this year. 1) Nars Sheer Glow- Now where do I start with this one? I honestly don't think I could find a better foundation than this. It's just got the perfect amount of everything and is the absolute perfect shade. The coverage is amazing and it lasts so long without going patchy. Definitely my top foundation of this whole year. 2) L'Oreal True Match - I love this one because the formula is so thin, so it's not overly heavy and again lasts really long on the skin. There are so many shades to choose from so this is a real winner for pretty much everyone! 3) Bourjois Healthy Mix- Although this is fairly new into my collection I pretty much fell instantly in love with this. The shade is a perfect match for my skin and the finish it gives is really natural.  4) Rimmel Match Perfection- This is comparable

Soap and Glory Solar Powder

Image
After hearing loads about how great this was I couldn't resist picking it up when boots had a good 3 for 2 offer on. Its not as pigmented as I expected it to be but its fabulous at adding that extra bit of bronze to the skin that is very very needed. The 2 shades are wonderful when the brush is swirled around and swept over the cheeks as the lighter shade has a slight shimmer running through it which creates a lovely highlighted glow. The darker shade is matte and so can be used as a contour so this is pretty much a 3 in 1 product. Have you tried this bronzer? What did you think? Lots of love, Son x

HD Eye and Brow Palette

Image
I got this as a gift from my wonderful friend Oonagh from Thebeautystudent here  and I couldn't be happier. Brows are definitely my thing at the moment! This palette is perfect for every different brow colour and the pigmentation is just right to make your brows look perfectly filled in but super natural. There are 4 shades ranging from a super light blondey colour to a dark ashy almost black shade. It also comes with a double ended brush which does the trick fabulously. There is a waxy product as well to ensure it stays put throughout the day. I'm just so happy with the entire product and it's so handy that it can also be used as eyeshadows so that all of the shades are in use. What are your fave brow products? Lots of love, son x

Christmas Nails

Image
Red nails are compulsory for Christmas, they can honestly change a look completely and are so festive and gorgeous. This OPI one is the perfect true red and the formula of OPI's polishes are always the best! They last super long without chipping and they don't take forever to dry which is a definite pet hate of mine. I will be pairing this with a sparkly top coat most likely  et   voila ! I obviously couldn't not put some chocolate in the shot as it is Christmas, especially Lindt mmmm. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas day! Lots of love, Son x

Lip Combo

Image
This pair is perfect complimenting a natural make up look to add that extra something. The Maybelline Color Drama lip pencil in the shade Nude Perfection is super moisturising and long lasting. It's fab for creating that perfect Kylie Jenner lip look. Also this Soap and glory Sexy Mother Pucker lip gloss in Pink Apricot is so tingly and again lasts ages on the lips. I'm so happy with the look that this lip combo achieves. I have been wearing it loads as I think it looks lovely and natural and enhances my natural lips perfectly! Lots of love, Son x

Winter Skincare Saviours

Image
Particularly in the colder months our skin seems to banish itself of all moisture, as soon as I step out of the shower I can feel my skin tightening and I need to rush to my saviours to plump up my face back to life.  Facial oils , I wrote a blog post on the Bobbi Brown facial oil here , but recently I have been loving this cute samples of the tarte maracuja oil and the Josie Maran oil. I use these after slathering on my serum and they are really lightweight and sink into the sink super fast. Primers , I know this isn't so much a skincare item but it has been an essential step in my morning routine for prepping my skin for make up. This borjois one brightens and adds a last it of moisture sealing in all of the skincare process and prolonging make up. Lip balm , cracked, flaky lips are definitely not vogue this season, or any actually, so using a proper good moisturising lip balm can make all the difference. I am enjoying this elemis ultra conditioning lip balm at the mo an

Chelsea Boots

Image
Chelsea boots are seriously in at the moment and to be honest are a staple piece for anyone's wardrobe to be worn almost all year round! I was extremely lucky to be given this pair from Jack Wills by my boyfriend about a month ago and I couldn't be happier! Chelsea boots are so versatile to wear in winter with a super cosy outfit for chilling or a dressy outfit if going out. There are so many lovely pairs on the market but none of them tickled my fancy quite like the Jack Wills ones! I personally just think Chelsea boots are just so convenient and stylish and they just add something a bit extra to an outfit. Lots of love, Son x

Drugstore Eyeshadow Faves

Image
I'm not an avid eye shadow wearer I must say, and will mainly just rock out the eye shadows for special occasions or when I feel like I need a bit of added oomf to my make up and quite frankly only when I can be bothered, which I must say isn't too often. Anyhow I do feel like I can decipher good from bad pretty easily and there are some eyeshadows in particular I tend to lean towards when in need of a quick fix. The Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Eyeshadow s (£4.99) are a real saviour, an all in one. A quick swipe of one of these across the lid, a bit of blending into the crease and you're good to go! They also last for yonks so are good for all day/ evening events when you really need your make up to last. The L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Mono Eyeshadow s (£5.49)are heaven in powder form, they are so silky smooth and creamy and a dream to work with. Again these are fabulous on their own or layered with other shadows to create different loo

What I'm Burning - Mulled Spice

Image
Christmas is the time for all things cosy and warm inside, this means rocking out the Christmassy candles. This is the Mulled Spice boxed candle from Laura Ashley which is currently on sale for £10 here . Its description is "Our beautiful boxed candle is infused with a seasonal fragrance that mixes sweet almond, mellow orange and delicate wintry woods with the spicy warmth of sweetened cinnamon, rich woody cloves and smoky vanilla." It is honestly the most comforting, warming festive candle I have found. I love how sweet it is and how long the scent lingers for. And I will definitely be repurchasing this candle after this burns down in not too long I'm sure! What is your favourite winter scent? Lots of Love, Son x

Batiste replacement?

Image
Batiste's dry shampoo is pretty much everyone's cult dry shampoo, am I right? And even though I don't think it's the best for my hair I have been making excuses and making myself believe that its the only dry shampoo that works. Until I came across this Aussie dry shampoo in boots and I had to give it a try. It's so much lighter in texture and application and doesn't leave a grey powder in your hair. It absorbs all the nasty grease from laziness of lack of washing (also makes your hair smell gorgeously fresh) and does exactly what I would want it to. I think I may be hooked for good! Lots of love, Son x

Christmas Party Look Drugtore vs High End Products

Image
Christmas is fast approaching us and I wanted to create a festive make up look perfect for Christmas parties. I also know that not everyone has the disposable income to spend on mega expensive beauty products, so I thought I would give a drugstore and high end option for each step.   Step 1) Priming -   Laura Mercier Foundation Primer In Radiance Bronze (£29).    Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer (£10.99) Step 2) Foundation- Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation ($38) Bourjois healthy mix foundation (£9.99)  Step 3) Concealer- Laura Mercier secret concealer (£19.50) Maybelline age rewind concealer (£9.99) Step 4) Brows- Anastasia Beverly hills brow wiz (£17) Soap and Glory Brow Archery (£10) Step 5) Eyeshadow- Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (£38) MUA Single Eyeshadows (£1 each) Step 6) Eyeliner- DHC Liquid Eyeliner EX-(£16) L'Oreal Superliner (£6.49) Step 7) Lipstick- Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Lipstick (£22) Bourjois Ro

Let's Talk Deodorant

Image
This is a bit of a different post today, I'm sorry if you find this a weird one. I just couldn't not share this with you guys. TMI ALERT, I used to sweat a lot! whether it be scorching hot outside or bitterly cold, I would always end up sweaty and I really hated it. Until I found this. This is the only deodorant that I have found to actually work for me and keep my underarms dry all day! The smell is also a massive enticer, as unlike most deodorants I have tried in the past, this doesn't choke me up with its powdery chemically smell. The application feels a bit weird at start as you have to turn the little notch and a white cream comes out the top which you smear on under your arms. I like this as I feel like I can monitor how much product I am putting on and compared to spray on deodorants this is a life saver. I think I have probably over killed the topic of deodorants now, sorryyyy! Excuse the picture as well, I took it on my phone and yes I am in my fluffy red dressi

Macadamia Flawless Review

Image
6 in 1, shampoo AND conditioner AND cuts drying time in half?! Sounds too good to be true right? I have been trying out this beauty breakthrough for the last two weeks and I think I have come to a conclusion. For me having really difficult hair anyway its always a gamble testing out new products that I'm not sure about. The idea of this is fabulous and a really exciting concept. For someone with really dry hair I think this would be perfect as its super moisturising and leaves a silky smooth finish throughout. however with me having pretty oily hair this is not the one, pretty much as soon as I got out of the shower my hair felt like I had shoved a tonne of oil in it. The drying time was quicker and it did leave my hair feeling really soft and conditioned. This is definitely not a slating post as I think this is a fantastic product and have heard many amazing reviews, it just didn't work for me. I would really recommend trying this out if you have dry hair and shampooing i

Laura Mercier

Image
Recently I had the incredible opportunity to attend a beauty sale in which I could purchase high end beauty products for a fraction of the price. I have always wanted to invest in Laura Mercier as they have made such a good reputation for themselves in the beauty industry. So when I was offered the chance to pick up some of their products I was not going to miss out!  I picked up 4 products in total The radiance bronze primer (£29) The brow definer in warm (£16.50) Lipstick in Haute Red (£21.00) Concealer in 1 (£19.50) I have been using all of these now for about a week and a half and its safe to safe Laura Mercier hasn't disappointed! The lipstick is a true red, is super moisturising and lasted ages! The concealer has the perfect amount of coverage for under the eyes and any blemishes and doesn't dry out the skin at all, the only thing I would say with this concealer is that if not set with a powder can crease quite badly. the brow definer, although in the

Disappointing Product: eos Lip Balms

Image
I don't often like to be a moaning myrtle and hate slagging products off but I cant let this product slip through the net. After hearing crazy amounts about how utterly wonderful the eos lip balms were I was overly excited about being able to get my hands on them. In doing so, buying 7 in total which I can honestly say is an absolute waste of money. I was anticipating my lips being nourished and moisturised as it is called a lip balm and I would assume it would be its sole purpose to soften and soothe lips. However this did the absolute opposite and myself, my boyfriend and my sister whom I had given some of these to experienced the most uncomfortably dry chapped and cracked lips. I am a bit baffled by the reviews saying that these are fabulous because I couldn't disagree more! I will admit to them looking pretty and being a good invention in the shape and application but these points definitely do not make up for its painful formula! Let me know if you have experien

New In: Base Products

Image
Going to New York last month meant I was able to pick up products that either aren't sold in England or are much cheaper in the states. I took this opportunity to delve into the realms of the brand Tarte which I have heard oh so much about. In particular the Amazonian Clay full coverage foundation, who has been raved about by many a blogger/ YouTuber so I obviously couldn't pass up the opportunity to try it out for myself. Not going to lie this was pretty costly at around $50 dollars I believe so I am hoping that it is going to be worth it! As I haven't tried this yet I cant let you know my opinions on it however as soon as I have given it a fair try I will let you know how well it bode with my skin. Up next is the Maybelline instant age rewind under eye concealer which I had used a couple of times before courtesy of my sister and I fell in love straight away and had to buy it in New York as it was a lot cheaper. It matches my skin tone perfectly, glides on super smoo

Best Of Brows

Image
Brows are something that I find super hard to get right. My brows grow so quickly that it's hard to keep a shape that I like for a prolonged amount of time. However with the help of filling in my brows I can keep them looking as best as possible. Although my hair is pretty dark my brows are quite gapy and so if I leave them I look pretty dead. I have already written a post on my brow archery HERE and I am still using this pretty much everyday for the pen however the waxy pencil side has decided to get stuck and doesn't want to be used. Which brings me on to the anastasia brow wiz, I have the shade medium brown. It is the perfect non orangey natural looking waxy pencil with a super fine nib which can be used for precision filling in. Brow wiz is about double the price of soap and glory's brow archery, however bro archery only comes in 2 shades a dark brunette and a blonde, so if you are somewhere in the middle it's probably a better idea to splurge a bit and in

Chubby Stick Loving

Image
The chubby stick lip pencils are doing well for themselves at the moment, they seem to withhold the exact qualities that we as beauty enthusiasts look for in a lip product. The simplicity of a pencil format makes application easy peasy and gives a really flawless looking finish to the lip. Lots of high end and drugstore brands have brought out their own versions of the chubby stick lip pencil/ crayon styled products and I have delved into this craze to sample some of my own. Revlon has released three separate lines of the crayon lipsticks, the first being the Just Bitten Kissable balm stains, I have the shade 040 Rendezvous which is a gorgeous sheeny corally-orange shade which looks absolutely gorgeous on the lips. The kissable balm stains are pretty much what they say on the tin, sheer, moisturising washes of colour to accentuate the lip without making too much of a statement. I will say that they come with a pretty strong minty taste/ smell so if you're not really into t

The Red That Looks Black

Image
Included in my rather long list of beauty products I wanted to buy from New York was the Essie nail polish in Wicked which is a very dark autumnal red shade but after stumbling across this little gem Essie was long since forgotten about. I found this Rimmel polish in the shade 394 red award in CVs for $3 which in my opinion is an absolute steal. Especially as the colour is almost exactly the same as the Essie shade I had been longing for which was more than double the price. The formula is lovely as it has Lycra in it which creates a really glossy long lasting finish. I love the fact that in some lights it looks red and in others it looks black, it just makes me feel all autumny and ready for Christmas! I have been wearing this since the day I got it and I don't see it parting from my nails anytime soon! I would have taken a pic of it on my nails if they didn't look so atrocious at the moment! I've got lots of ideas for posts coming up which I hope you will enjoy! Lo

The Shampoo That Saved My Hair

Image
Well that title sounds rather dramatic doesn't it! I'll give you a bit of background info about my hair, its all round difficult to manage, my ends get extremely dry if I don't take good care of them, my roots get extremely oily about 10 minutes after washing (only a slight exaggeration) and my scalp if stripped only slightly too much will begin to flake, how lovely.. So I find it very difficult to keep it looking clean, shiny and healthy, hence why I am automatically drawn to brands which I have tried and tested and know work. However a couple of weeks ago my shampoo of choice which I had been using for about 2 months (L'Oreal EverStrong) had ran out and on my dash to boots it was no where to be found. My mother picked up the Herbal Essences combo which names slips my mind at this moment in time, but it is in a pink bottle. I gave this a go as it looked okay and I had no other options but it completely ruined the state of my hair, after washing I found that my hai

Sweater Weather

Image
Autumn has finally descended on us here in the UK which means shopping for more autumnal clothes to keep us warm as the weather gets colder. So I have bought out the knitted jumpers and cardigans. I have been keeping my style really simplistic recently and have stocked up on plain V neck T-shirts which I pair with jeans and a good ol jumper. On the wishlist is a pair of black or blue Chelsea boots which I think would just complete my autumnal looks. But for now I am happy with wearing my timberlands or vans. Here are a few of my fave knitwear that I will be wearing this autumn/ winter. New Look does knitwear superbly, hence you will find that 3/4 of these pieces are all from New Look, I would definitely recommend checking out their products! Primark Grey Speckled Cardigan- size 8 £14     New Look striped blue and grey jumper- size 16 £20 roughly ( I wanted it extra large so it would be super baggy and cosy)  New Look burgundy jumper- size 8 £19.99 New Look blue po

School/ Work Simple Makeup

Image
The makeup I have been gravitating towards when going to school and work has been relatively simple. I am really happy with the products that I have been using recently, they have all been working really well together and thought I would share them with you. :) What are your everyday beauty products? See you soon, Lots of love, son x

DHC Liquid Eyeliner

Image
As I was scrolling through my Bloglovin feed a few weeks ago I noticed that Lily Pebbles had spoken about this eyeliner which I had just happened to have received the day before so I knew it would be a goodun'. I had never heard of this brand before but after a bit of researching I am intrigued about some of the other products that DHC sell and this eyeliner definitely sets the bar high. The tip is super fine and glides across my upper lash line with such ease, making it almost impossible (yet not quite) for an eyeliner noob like myself to manage a thin symmetrical line. The formula is jet black and lasts all day without smudging or totally vanishing and even using my trusty Bioderma at the end of a long day is a bit of a struggle to remove, which is definitely a good thing. You can buy this exclusively on their website here and this eyeliner retails for £16. Hope everyone is well, Lots of love, son x

A little bit of Luxury

Image
I feel that facial oils get a bit of a bad rep for causing breakouts by being too heavy and greasy on the skin especially for people get oily patches i.e. me, surely if you use an oil on your face it will cause your skin to become uncontrollably greasy and unpleasant, right? I put my hands up and admit that I myself always steered away from applying anything too oily onto my face for fear of my skin reacting badly And God knows what happening. However after receiving this Bobbi Brown Extra face oil I cautiously braved it and I must say, I am converted. Super lightweight and non greasy and is absorbed into the skin within seconds. It doesn't fill my pores and I have experienced no nasty skin occurrences whilst using this for the last couple of weeks every night. It softens the skin and injects a burst of moisture whilst plumping (sounds a bit weird doesn't it, promise it's a good thing) out the face giving you a really healthy, natural glow. The price is the only dow

New York/ Autumn Beauty Wishlist

Image
As I am going with my mum and sister in about 3 weeks to New York- Eeeek!!  There will obviously be the obligatory days of extreme shopping and so   I thought I would compile a collection of products that are on my list to check out as the exchange rates are so fab. The majority of these products are autumnal inspired as I am a sucker for good old berry lips, plum eye looks and flawless satiny skin. Also going off on a bit of a tangent but I have been really into the whole extreme couponing tv show and it has really inspired me to try and find some good deals whilst I am out in America, but not a hundred percent sure how to really get started with the deal finding. Let me know if any of you are avid extreme couponers that can enlighten me on how its done, thanks:)             What's your Autumn wish list? Lots of love, son x
